MY JOURNEY FROM A 12th GRADE STUDENT TO AN INDIE GAME DEVELOPER!

This is my story. Before 2 years when I was in 9th grade I saw a youtube video named "I made a game in one hour only" I was impressed and wanted to do the same. I saw that he was making the game in unreal engine. I downloaded that engine in 4 days just because the size of the engine. I was getting 1.5 gb a day and the size of the engine was about 7gb so I used to do that little little daily and after few days I got it. I opened it up and I was blank! I searched for tutorials but I didn't find any help. So just after two days I quit. Back to normal life. In 2020 when this Covid-19 came there was a lot of time for me because all the schools were closed in India. I wasted my 4 months in playing game and doing unwanted stuffs but after 4 months I saw a video on youtube named "I made a game in 1 hour only!" again? Yes, again but this time before downloading anything I searched "Unreal Engine" The second video I got on youtube was "Unity vs Unreal Engine" and I was like now what is Unity? Then I saw the video and I got to know that Unreal Engine has 15000 functions and Unity has 13500, Unreal Engine is little bit harder and Unity is Easy. I thought why not Unity. Before downloading the Unity I saw another video which was in suggestion "Is Blender useful?" I saw it and found that Blender is of low megabytes so I downloaded it and it was the first 3d engine I used. I learn basics of Blender in 15 days and I found it fun. Then I got to know that we can not make games in blender its just a supporter to make games. The real Beast is Unity and Unreal Engine. But for both coding was needed and for me I hate studies so Coding? But still I downloaded Unity in 3 days maybe just because I didn't have access to wifi. I started watching tutorials and made a nature scene (terrain) which was not too good but for me it was good. I then thought why not add a player to roam around the terrain. So I added one and this was the first time I did coding after downloading Microsoft Visual Studio. I made my own player by coding and I just loved it. Then I made one or two more scenes (terrain) and added the same player. Then I thought lets export this and share it to my friends. I saw a tutorial and followed it but I was getting an error while building player "Cannot build while importing scripts or assets" After 100s of google searched and youtube tutorials still I was not able to find any solution. So I deleted Unity! Yes I deleted it. But even after deleting it I was still searching for it. But still didn't find any solution. I was bored of playing games and doing timepass stuff. I thought let's download Unity again It's ok If I would'nt be able to build my game but atleast I can learn it. So I downloaded Unity again and started learning. I thought let's not create a terrain let's learn something new. So I learnt how to make a car game. I learnt coding and stuff for how to make a car working. I made a cool yellow car a small city with a bridge and stuff like that. Then I made a speedometer for the car and created small environment. I was really happy so made a small clip of the game and put on my instagram. One day I was just making usual changes in the scripts and codes and by my mistake or what one of my script got few errors while I was solving it the project got corrupted. The whole project was gone the car the city and every single thing. I was so mad that I again deleted Unity! Yes again. After one week I downloaded it again to test my new unlimited wifi speed. And I started thinking what to make next. At that the pubg got banned in India. So I thought let's make an FPS Game. I made on small MicroFpsGame. But again I tried to build it I got errors while building. I did so much hard work but still It was showing errors so I deleted Unity again. And just after 3 days I downloaded it again and in these three days I got a thought of AMAZE. The game with just one Player, a torch in the player's hand and in which the player has to escape from the place to go to the next level. The game was just simple. No light only Darkness and a player with a torch on his/her hand. But the twist was the sound of the game. I made some cool horror sounds by watching tutorials. I even got the name of the game. AMAZE means A - MAZE just like the player was stuck in the maze. I made three levels of the game. And was just checking whether the build is working or not. So I tried it and guess what it worked. I exported the game for the first time and played it on my phone. I was so so much happy. Then I made 5 levels then 6 and then 7. I even learnt how to save the game, how to make a pause menu, how to make a main menu, And I learnt all this from Internet from various platforms for free. All coding and programming, graphic designing and 3d Engine. I was just oving it because I was learning something new everyday. I completed the game in 2 months. And exported it successfully. And made a nice App Icon and released the poster of my game on my Instagram. I was just so much happy. After few days I put a release date for my game. My sister sponsored me for my google play console account which costs 25$ I then put my game on 27th november 2020 on google play store. They told me it will take upto 20 days to verify the game and to publish it. The date I told everyone was 30th november. I then updated the date on Instagram. But on 30th December in the evening I got the mail that your game has been published on the google play store. I was so so much happy. I told everyone one Instagram. They all supported me alot. Everyone downloaded it and greeted me. I still remember all those sleepless days and nights, all those hardworks. After so many failures, I didn't quit, I tried again and again everytime and atlast I achieved my goal.

Difficulties I faced - Low End Laptop, No Free Wifi, Failures, No tutors.

But still atlast I did it. All thanks to my family who inspired me everytime, to all my friends who supported me alot, and last but not least I wanna thank me, I wanna thank me for believing in me I wanna thank me, I wanna thank me for never quit, I wanna thank me for trying right and wrong, I wanna thank me for having no days off, I wanna thank me for being me all the time, I wanna thank me for doing all the hard work.

Thank you all for reading this.
